5 Outfits to Wear in Italy in Spring and Summer

italy outfits for spring and summer

Ciao! And, yes, I’m officially one of those people who won’t shut up about their trip to Europe. But can you blame me? I recently spent two weeks exploring the northern region of Italy, and I’ve been craving pizza and an Aperol spritz ever since.

I started in Lake Como, which is known for its luxury villas and stunning lakeside views. Next on the itinerary was Venice, where I indulged in endless plates of pasta and wandered through the canals and cobblestone streets. Then, I explored more of the Veneto region, including Bassano del Grappa, Valdobbiadene (the home of prosecco), and Citadella.

If you have a trip to Italy coming up, then you’ve probably been dreaming up your own itinerary for a while now. And while planning a trip to Italy can be hard, planning the outfits you’ll wear while you’re there is even harder!

Como calls for elegant maxi skirts and romantic floral patterns, while flowy dresses and bold summer colors might be better suited for the Amalfi Coast. No matter where your Italian adventure takes you, planning your outfits ahead of time will make your life easier, elevate your #OOTD travel pics, and help you avoid overpacking.

So, to provide you with some vacation fashion inspo, I’m sharing a few of my favorite outfits I wore in Italy below.

An Italian Fairytale

Top | Skirt | Sandals

If this floral corset top and frilly white maxi skirt combo doesn’t say “European summer,” then I don’t know what does. I thought that the elevated vibe of this outfit would be perfect for the picturesque lakeside views, luxury villas, and lush gardens of Lake Como. The sweetheart neckline and structured fit of the top are so flattering, while the textured hemline and high slit of the skirt add a dynamic effect to an otherwise simple piece. Both of these pieces are from Princess Polly – I recommend ordering a size up in the top.

Between the cobblestone streets and endless stairs, I learned quickly that heels have no place in Lake Como (or most of Italy, for that matter). So, I paired this ensemble with simple white sandals that kept me comfortable throughout the entire day.

Pretty in Pink

Dress | Sandals

Why wear a little black dress when you can wear a little pink one? This has become one of my favorite dresses in my closet — so much so that I have it in multiple colors. I adore the vibrant hot pink hue of this mini, and it’s especially beautiful against the colorful architecture and green mountain backdrops that are to be found throughout Italy. I love how the ruffles and puff sleeves add fun and flirty elements, and the one-shoulder neckline makes it unique.

What really makes this a winner, though, is the level of comfort. Putting this on takes no effort yet it looks like a well-put-together outfit. Its breezy fit is especially nice for those hot spring and summer travel days. *Accessorize with a cone of gelato.

A Princess Moment

DressShoes (similar style)

I may be in my late 20s, but this pink babydoll dress made me feel like a Disney princess. It made frolicking through the streets of Venice all the more fun! The ruffle sleeves and floral pattern also make this an excellent wardrobe choice for brunch on a terrace in southern Italy. Can’t you just picture it? Again, comfort is key. So I styled this with a pair of chunky white sandals and a half-up hairdo.

Cute & Casual for Como

Top | Skirt

I love an easy and casual yet cute outfit, and that’s exactly what this is. I threw this on after a red-eye flight from the States, and it helped me feel composed while staying comfortable. Even since coming home from the trip, I wear this green mini skirt all the time. I love the central ruching and tie in the waistline, as it’s incredibly flattering and creates an interesting detail. Plus, the bright color and dainty floral pattern will never go out of style for the sunny seasons.

Pair it with a black crop top, some gold accessories, and a simple pair of flat sandals, and you’re good to go!

Black, White, & Wine

Similar Set | Similar Dress

This might be my favorite outfit of the entire trip. I’m not usually one for black and white (can you tell from the other outfits that I love color?), but this matching set made me feel so chic and sophisticated. I love a feminine detail, so I styled it with an oversized black bow in my hair, which I think pulled the whole look together. If I didn’t have to worry about walking 10 miles of cobblestone hills, then I’d probably wear this with heeled black mules.

I wore this to go shopping in Bellagio and sailing on Lake Como, and it just really embodied my dream Italian vibe. I may have been considering canceling my flight back home by the end of this day, TBH.

Wherever your travels take you, I hope this gave you some inspiration for your next European adventure. And, hey, who says you can’t dress like you’re on vacation every day?
